Jo Tyrrell, artist, photographer and film maker called in to the NBG office today to tell us all about her new film ‘Watching Water’.
Filmed in Southern California and on the North Shore of Oahu, ‘Watching Water’ sets out to explore the visceral essence of surfing. The sounds, the solitude, the friendships formed, the experience of being in the ocean and living ultimately by its rules.
We have been ‘blown away’ by this film, it’s raw, it’s gritty and somehow just manages to capture the true essence of some truly outstanding surfers.

In the Spring 2012, Sam Lutman-Pauc and John Whiteman will be leading a group of kitesurfers across the English Channel in an attempt to claim a new Guinness World Record for the ‘fastest group crossing’. An challenge in itself, last week we heard on the grapevine that Richard Branson will also be attempting the same challenge with Team Virgin… the Race is officially on!
Crossing the English Channel is one thing, a large expanse of water, 20- 24 miles across, subject to where you cross and land and one of the busiest shipping channels in the world. Kiting this expanse of water will be difficult but now add in the fact that we will be leading a team of 10 across you can start to see that this really is an epic challenge.
The reason for leading a team of 10 is an attempt to claim a new Guinness World Record for ‘fastest team crossing’, something that Richard Branson attempted last year with Team Virgin and we believe is attempting again next spring, although we have not had this confirmed by the man himself.
Our challenge training and crossing attempt will be filmed and a short film produced which we then hope to promote to the extreme sports channels helping to bring awareness to the sport.
For further information and to monitor our training and team updates visit KITESURFTHECHANNEL and follow us on Twitter and Facebook.
