The team at Flysussex took us up to one of their private training sites, an amazing North facing slope on the South Downs. After a short drive to the site and a hike up the hill we were unpacking our gliders and commenced our pre flight checks.

Today I got to fly the new Ozone Mojo4, an excellent beginners glider. Considering we concluded our first days training flying solo at 30ft, today was a huge step up and as we launched off the North facing slope we were gliding at 500ft performing turns before landing in the field below.

The Ozone Mojo4 is a great beginners wing, ideal for new pilots with balanced handling and superb agility and performance. Jess my instructor from Flysussex took her time to explain the new features of the Mojo4 and talked me through the improvements Ozone have made to increase the performance of the glider.

Paragliding is an amazing sport, it’s totally different to my expectations and the teaching and training provided by Flysussex is superb. Today has been an amazing day! As our paragliding training kicked off with Flysussex, by the end of our first day we were airborne and gliding at 30ft above the beautiful Sussex Downs.

When learning any new sport or activity, it’s best to partner yourself with expert tuition and people that can make the learning process as easy as possible. Flysussex were the perfect choice for us, a Sussex based paragliding school with a wealth of experience, superb instructors and some of the best training sites on the South coast. Our training commenced in glorious sunshine with a sketchy light breeze, Adam our instructor took us through the basics, unpacking the glider, checking the glider over and then a detailed talk through the glider set up, controls and harness.

Once we were familiar with the glider and the harness we were taught how to land in an emergency. This involved John and I throwing ourselves on to the sheep poo covered downs in a controlled manner, tucked in with no flailing limbs. Once mastered, it was talk over and time to jump in the harness and get our gliders airborne. The next hour involved John and I taking it in turns to try and run down the gentle slope making small and gentle hops as our gliders lifted us off the slope. As our technique improved, slowly our instructor moved us higher up the slope and on each run both John and I gained a little more height. By the end of the day and only 5 hours in to our training we were gliding solo from the top of the slope getting good air and comfortable long glides to the bottom of the valley… AMAZING!

I think it’s fair to say that both John and I never imagined that on our first day we would be getting 30ft air. Our first days training has been amazing, it was exhilarating, yet at the same time incredibly graceful.

Next week we head back to Flysussex for our 2nd days training for our elementary paragliding course (EPC)… CAN’T WAIT!

NBG is managing all aspects of sponsorship and promotion for Team KC2012, a kitesurfing team that will attempt a Guinness World Record in August/September 2012.

As part of the sponsorship negotiation, NBG secured O’Neill as a team sponsor for the challenge. O’Neill will not only support the KC2012 Team with technical clothing products but have included one of their own Pro Kitesurfers (Ryan Coot, Ireland) to strengthen the team and assist with planning and logistics.

NBG will also be visiting the home beaches of Ryan Coot in Ireland. Our team will be producing a short video documentary to capture and record the teams training and the intensity and harshness of kitesurfing in the Irish winter sea.
